Sandy Brand

Sandy Brand art

Born in Scotland, Sandy is a Canadian citizen with 2 Fine Arts degrees. She is always busy and on the move, so her paintings have loads of movement as well. They are inseparable!

She exhibits, sells and leases her art for homes, offices and studio sets, accepts commissions, leads Scottish art-making vacations, teaches, and illustrates books.

"In 2005, I had the honor of being selected as the painter to represent Canada at Emaar International Art Symposium in the middle east. The United Arab Emirates invited 20 painters, each from different countries, to paint in Dubai for 2 weeks. In return, we left them the art we created there. Our paintings are installed permanently in the world's tallest building."

When Sandy paints, she starts with a feeling, and feelings have colours for her... then she lets the canvas tell her what to do. She lets it come 'through' her rather than 'from' her.

Sandy knows the painting is finished when it's name presents itself to her. She is really a story teller in paint instead of words, except for that 'title'. She is narrating lots of her awesome travels and life experiences which she is sure many of you can identify with.

Sandy is a spiritual creature and has accomplished a lot in this short life span. If she died tomorrow, she would regret nothing - it has all made her who she is today.

Sandy's advice for increasing the creative inspiration in your life is to live life to the fullest and create from your soul.

Darlene Hassall

Darlene Hassail Art   When I was studying art in University, my work was very one dimensional and graphic in presentation. Clearly drawing from my education in Graphic Design! When I went back to art, almost 30 years later, I found that I had discovered that the world to me was a very tactile, sensory overload kind of place. And now, I try to capture some of that tactile depth in my work through the use of texture and dimension.

While I believe that one never abandons traditional art, I struggle to express what I feel and see. Art to me is not a brush touch on a flat screen of canvas, but a means to force the viewer to participate through dimension and texture.

The work is a journey, a process, and an experience. How do you create something that causes another soul to stop, notice and respond? And what is it that connects us and allows us for even a fleeting moment to see each other?

That's what I am attempting to achieve.
